Damn This Rain

How can a day start when it’s still dark?
A shower and shave starts a spark.
The shop is chilly, the truck is too…
But it’s what a workin’ man must do.

How can a dog be so darned awake?
He has no cobwebs left to shake.
If he could harness that energy
Then he could just stay in bed with me…

But as he heads out to start it all
He gets an unexpected call
Barns are soggy, ground it wet
Oh how much better can this day get?

So she says…

Damn this rain,
Damn this mud
Damn the messy, washed out crud.
Damn this weather,
Damn this day…
Oh damn… guess we’ll be in bed all day!

He still tries to be aloof
He looks up at the leaky roof
He curses the local weatherman
And cursed the time this day began.

So she decides it up to her.
To free him of that saddle bur.
The weather’s going to run its course
And he knows he’ll still have to shoe that horse

He mutters about an eight day week
And then he hears her softly speak
A little whisper in his ear…
And what she says is crystal clear…

She whispers…

Chorus:
Damn this rain,
Damn this mud
Damn the messy, washed out crud.
Damn this weather,
Damn this day…
Oh damn… guess we’ll be bed all day!

Bridge:
He stops at last to look at her, she reads him…
She feels deep her soul and pounding heart that she needs him…
His shoulders drop, a smile sneaks out
And now he knows what this day’s about!!
He smiles, he takes her in his arms…
He pulls her to him, with no resistance
And she responds to his body’s insistence

He speaks to her and says…

Unplug the phone, my work day’s done
Baby let’s have a little fun.
It you and me hon all the way…
So by God bless this rainy day!

Chorus:
Damn this rain,
Damn this mud
Damn the messy, washed out crud.
Damn this weather,
Damn this day…
Oh damn… guess we’ll have to stay in bed all day!
